Lavish Outdoor Oasis: A Dog Mom’s Creative Transformation of Kmart Cubby Houses for Dorothy and Martha

A loving ‘dog mom’ has creatively turned two Kmart cubbies into a luxurious outdoor home for her furry companions. Jessica Breen wanted to provide her golden retriever, Dorothy, and border collie, Martha, with a cozy and dry shelter outside.
Using Bunnings paint and artificial flowers from Spotlight, she transformed the $250 cubby houses into a stylish retreat for her pets. Adding a personal touch, she even placed letters above the door to spell out the names of her beloved dogs.
Ms. Breen documented the entire project on her Facebook renovation page, with her husband, Sinclair, assisting every step of the way. Unfortunately, the cubbies are currently sold out both in-store and online, making her creation even more unique and special.

At night, Dorothy and Martha can be seen sitting under twinkling fairy lights in their doghouse. During the COVID-19 lockdown, many Australian parents have been getting creative with Kmart cubby houses to make fun play spaces for their children. However, one unique idea that has recently hit the internet is the transformation of a cubby house into a doghouse.

Using paint from Bunnings, Ms Breen gave the cubby house a fresh new look – painting the body in white, the windows and roof in charcoal grey, and the doors in a vibrant green and firetruck red. To add a touch of beauty, she decorated the windows with artificial flowers from Spotlight and hung fairy lights from Bunnings along the roof eaves. The final touch was adding letters from Spotlight above each door, with the names of her dogs, Dorothy, and Martha.

To complete the cozy atmosphere, a white picket fence made of timber pieces from Bunnings surrounds the doghouse. It’s a unique and charming space that shows the love Ms Breen has for her furry friends.
